How teak weathers

Untreated Grade A teak turns a soft silver-grey after a few months outdoors; oiled each spring it keeps its honey colour. Only the surface colour changes – the wood stays just as strong.

Looking after a teak dining set

• Leave it natural: Grade A teak needs no treatment outdoors. Left alone it weathers to an even silver-grey and stays just as strong.
• Or keep it golden: Wash it in spring, let it dry, then wipe on teak oil or teak protector once or twice a year to hold the honey colour.
• Wash once a year: Warm soapy water and a soft brush along the grain is all it needs. Skip the pressure washer – it roughens the surface.
• Stays out all winter: Teak shrugs off rain and frost. A breathable cover keeps leaves and dirt off; never seal it in plastic.
• Look after the cushions: Bring seat cushions in when it rains and over winter, and stand them on their edge to dry.
• Hairline checks are normal: Fine cracks on the end grain open and close with the weather. They are natural in solid teak and do not weaken it.

As a guide: a 120 cm round Sunshine set seats 4 and needs about 3.3 × 3.3 m, a 150 cm round set seats 6 and needs about 3.7 × 3.7 m, and a 180 cm round set seats 8 and needs about 4.3 × 4.3 m. What is a Lazy Susan?

A Lazy Susan is a round turntable that sits in the middle of the table so dishes can be spun round to everyone. Our 150 cm and 180 cm round teak tables include one made from the same Grade A teak.

Are cushions included with your dining sets?

Most of our teak dining sets come with seat cushions – check each product page for exactly what is included. Bring cushions in when it rains and over winter.

Is your teak Grade A and FSC certified?

Yes. We use Grade A teak – the dense, oily heartwood from the centre of the tree – sourced from FSC-certified, sustainably managed plantations.

How do I clean and maintain a teak dining set?

Wash it once a year with warm soapy water and a soft brush. Leave it to weather to silver, or oil it once or twice a year to keep the golden colour. That is all the care it needs.

Do I need to cover my teak dining set in winter?

It is not necessary – teak copes with frost and rain better than almost any other wood. A breathable cover keeps it clean and makes the spring wash quicker. Avoid plastic sheeting, which traps damp.

How long does delivery take?

Delivery is free to most of mainland UK. Most teak dining sets arrive within 3–5 working days; large sets come on a pallet, so let us know if access is tight.
